Easy Play Idea: Developing gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination

Can a 22 month old use a mallet?!

Yes. Yes they can.
Let's not underestimate our kids. Whatever the weather, get rugged up and give this activity a go.

Smashing ice with a mallet is great heavy-work, which can be so calming for little bodies.

It's an opportunity for them to smash things safely, which is exciting.

You'll be working on their hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills.

AND you'll be getting more time outdoors.

What's not to love? Stay close to help them learn what is appropriate to do with a mallet. Hold your boundaries. "I won't let you hit the table, the mallet is just for the ice". If they try and do it a second time you can gently remove the mallet and let them know they can try again later, the mallet is just for ice.

Tag a friend who's at a loss for what to do with their kids this winter.
