Make Toothbrushing Fun

Is it time to add to your kete of teeth brushing strategies?!

No one thing works all the time every time with toddlers.

You need a kete (basket) of strategies that you can pull out when one thing isn’t working or your little one is bordering on melting.

Toothbrushing has to be fun. Otherwise you’re not going to get in their shark jaws to do a good job.

One of the strategies in my Kete is to sing a song that comes to mind and switch up some of the words.

Inevitably I end up singing about wee and poo because that’s funny at the moment.

If you’re having a battle at teeth brushing time - it’s time to turn up the fun.

Other ideas include:

  • Splashing in the sink
  • Spitting at a target
  • Brushing the wrong places eg. Their nose/ears
  • Letting them brush your teeth first
  • Brushing a teddy’s teeth
  • Racing - going super fast then slow

And if all else fails - search their favourite TV character on youtube with the word ‘toothbrush’ are, someone will have made a video to brush along to.

Remember - teeth brushing starts when they get their teeth and they need them to say sounds and words!
