Indoor Sandpit

When you're stuck inside with a cold and waiting to prove you're covid free, you need to bring out the big-guns to keep a toddler from going stir crazy!

Today I remembered that my Mam had bought Auggie this 'sands alive' stuff - so we gave it a go

How:
🏖I got out August's play table.
🏖Filled it with 'sands alive'. Real sand would also work. Or blended crackers.
🏖I added some
@navybabynz loose parts and other kitchen things I had to hand.

The joy of sand is that it's incredibly easy to hoover up. I didn't anticipate quite how much Auggie would enjoy tipping all the contents onto the carpet! Later I added his messy mat so that I could sweep up and save some sand instead of loosing it all in the hoover! It's still a really easy sensory activity that is easy to clean up. Remember - let your baby play however they want to. Even if it's dumping it on the floor!

LANGUAGE OPPORTUNITIES:
💁🏼‍♀️ pretend you're making food. Talk about mixing and pouring and stirring and patting and rolling and cooking.
💁🏼‍♀️ talk about the texture and how it moved through your hands.
💁🏼‍♀️ narrate what your baby is doing with the activity. "You're pouring!, pat pat pat, brush it all up!"
