Christmas Baking: Gingerbread People
Baking is messy. I can't lie to you. It's messy. And if you've followed me for a while, you know I rave about messy play being really important for development. If too much mess is triggering for you - then you could make the dough before hand and just have your little one flour the bench and roll the cookies - flour can be vacuumed up in seconds! Either way - baking is a fab opportunity to fill your little one with language, plus baking is a fab life skill to learn! Being part of every step will also be doing wonders for your little one's fine and gross motor development.
We used the recipe from Chelsea sugar - just google "Chelsea sugar gingerbread". It was easy for a rubbish baker like me, and they turned out delicious. Fool proof.
LANGUAGE OPPORTUNITIES
Talk your little one through Al of the steps as you do them, using lots of repetition. "Roll roll roll the dough, sprinkle the flour - sprinkle sprinkle. Get ready to pressssss the cutter in. Pressssss. Now we can push push push the shape out."
